A couple of years ago I wrote a post called The 7 Habits of Highly Happy Marriages. It is to this day my most widely read article ever, and has been read and shared over 258,000 times.
It makes me so happy to think of all the marriages impacted by some words of inspiration and love.
One of the habits I mention is giving your marriage a dose of Vitamin F2 every day.
What is Vitamin F2 you ask?
It’s a healthy dose of Flirting and Fun.
Yes I made it up.
No, it’s not a real vitamin.
Yes, it will keep your marriage highly happy if you do it every day.
You know what happens when we are married for a long time? We forget what brought us together in the first place.
Other people think we are cool and other people show us that with flirty happy hellos and laughs in the coffee line.
And while I am ALL for happy hellos, the happy starts at home people!
I will be celebrating my 10th anniversary in May. Woohoo! I am SO EXCITED! But not because it’s been 10 years.
I am excited because every time I think about my hubby, I think, “wow, I get to do real life with the love of my life.”
I think things like –
- I get to go on dates with the love of my life.
- I get to do groceries with love of my life.
- I just woke up next to the love of my life.
- Some people go through life and never meet theirs and I married mine and get to see him every day.
These are some of my favorite thoughts. These thoughts are like Love Anchors that bring the love into the moment every day. So that when my sweet love leaves the towels messy or tracks dirt all over the kitchen floor, I have so much love in our emotional bank account that those things are so minor, they don’t knock us off center. They are just a blip.
Blips are good and normal and fine. I like blips. Keep it real.
When you make space to remember the love that brought you together daily, you also make space to flirt, to laugh, to have fun together.
Having fun together releases those happy chemicals in your body that are just like the ones you were overflowing with when you met. Taking Deliberate Loving Action every day is what makes a marriage thrive.
That’s why it’s critical to a happy marriage to have fun. It’s like HOMEWORK. You must do it to get the most out of the experience.
As a Life Coach, I LOVE homework. I tell all my clients, the most important things happen outside our coaching calls when you are out in the world experimenting and trying new things.
This week, when you take your regular vitamins, or drink your coffee or tea, remember to add some Vitamin F2 to your day to keep your marriage as strong and healthy as your body.
Homework – Choose a thought to think about your partner when you wake up every morning this week. Choose it before anything happens, just because. Then add some flirty fun to your day, even if it’s just a wink or a double squeeze when you hug. Small moments can have a big impact.
