Listen to your heart.
Do not disrespect your heart by hearing what it needs. And giving it the opposite. – Nayyirah Waheed
My friend Steph posted this on Facebook yesterday and it stayed with me all day long.
How many times have I disrespected my heart? Dozens? Hundreds?
My heart tells me it needs rest, and I push forward to work one more hour.
My heart tells me it’s time to make a scary change and I hold on to what is familiar a little while longer.
My heart tells me it wants more fun and I discover, I forgot how to have it.
My heart tells me to say YES! and I say, “I have to think about it. I will get back to you.”
My heart tells me to say NO! and I say, “Maybe. Let me see what I can do.”
My heart tells me to be quiet and I KEEP TALKING.
My heart tells me to pause, and instead of asking why and how, I ask “Why now? I want to keep going.”
My heart tells me it’s proud of everything I have done, and instead of saying thank you, and enjoying one moment of celebration and acknowledgement, I ask “What’s Next?”
My heart is calling out to me from every area of my life, asking me to re-decide what I want and how I want it. I quiet it down with more busy.
My heart starts asking me very quietly to listen and grows louder and louder and louder until…
I have no energy, I have no ambition, I have no desire.
My heart is necessary for all of those things. Without my heart, I am just a body, thinking things that don’t always make sense and aren’t always good for me.
My heart is North. My heart says where to go. When I listen.
My heart has been talking to me my whole life. During the big decisions and the tiny ones.
On balance I think I have listened to it more than not.
But practically all the moments I regret have come from hearing what my heart desires and giving it the opposite.
I have made my heart the captain of my ship. She plots the course. When she says there is danger I pause and steer away. When she says there is treasure, I speed up and go all in.
My heart is smiling again, and laughing, and having fun.
My heart is in love with life and people and ideas and projects.
At the end of a long day, my heart cannot wait until tomorrow for more adventures.
Listen to your heart.
Your heart is speaking to you every day.
Your heart says, I love you. I care about you, I want you to be well and happy and feel freedom and joy and occasionally glee.
Your heart says, please listen.
Your heart says, I will keep talking louder and louder until you listen. I will break things, in your body, in your heart, in your relationships, in your career.
UNTIL YOU LISTEN.
Your heart loves you so much.
Your heart can guide you so well.
WHEN YOU LISTEN.
What is it saying right now?
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath and ask, “What do I most need to know right now? What do I most need to do right now?”
LISTEN.
Listen to your heart.
Trust what your heart is telling you. Trust the feeling of rightness that says it’s coming from the deepest part of your inner wisdom.
Respect your heart.
Treat it with love.
Give it a voice and a time and a map.
It will guide you wherever you need to go.
This was in my heart this week to share. Not the standard blog post, I know. Things look different when you listen to your heart and that’s okay. Powerful messages come in all shapes and sizes and I hope this message was as inspiring for you to read as it was for me to write.
With Love From My Heart….
Maggie.
