I am going on a trip tomorrow. To a retreat with one of my mentors, Susan Hyatt. She is a super successful Life Coach and business woman who has been married for over two decades and shared her marriage wisdom with us here. I am so excited because I know I will learn and grow and evolve as a result of being in the company of people creating new things in the world and I can’t wait!
Because of this trip I wanted to get my nails done. I needed somewhere close to my house and open on a Monday. I Googled, I called to make sure they were open and off I went.
The place is called Pro Nails. What I didn’t realize is there are several Pro Nails and I went to the wrong one.
It was closed.
I called again. They were definitely open. I asked, “where are you?” and it turns out I pressed the wrong button on the GPS, they were there the whole time. I pressed a different option and found them right away.
This made me think. We all get lost sometimes.
We all try to knock on a closed door when there are people waiting and willing and open to love you, care for you and paint your nails if you just knock on their door instead.
When I realized I was in the wrong place I had a decision to make – give up or keep going.
I kept going.
Getting lost is normal. Especially for those lacking a complete sense of direction like me.
The potential for getting lost is present whenever we set forth on any kind of journey, whether it’s to the nail salon or through the peaks and valleys of life.
And when you are feeling lost, you always have a choice – give up or keep going.
I know you are here, reading this because you are in the Keep Going camp.
It’s easy when you are married and sharing your life with someone else, to get lost. To get lost in your team goals, to get lost in your responsibilities, to get lost in things that once made sense but now no longer make your heart sing.
The thing we forget is we can punch a new address in the GPS anytime.
We can leave the intersection of Frustration and Overwhelm and cross over to Hope Road right now.
We can travel through Dream Valley and make all kinds of stops along the way.
We all get lost sometimes. But we don’t have to stay lost.
I know you know this. I got a reminder yesterday and I felt like we all need a little nudge sometimes to remember as well.
And honestly, I need my own reminders. It’s okay to get lost, it’s okay change course. It’s okay to want things just because you want them.
My painted nails will not change the world. But they will make me happy every time I look at them. They will give me a little bit of delight every time. And life can be hard. I will take delight anywhere I can get it.
This week they will also remind me to keep going. They will remind me that its okay to come up to closed door, the world will not end, all I have to do is keep going.
Where do you need to go? Do you have the right address in your programmed in your internal GPS? Do you need to change course? Or just keep going because it’s farther than you thought it was?
That’s my message to you this week. Look at where you are going – do you like the destination? If so, keep going! If not, what new address to you need to punch in?
